Angiotensinogen, a glycoprotein found in plasma at about 7 mg per 100 ml, is the precursor molecule for angiotensins I, II, III and IV. It is produced primarily by the liver. Biologically, angiotensinogen is a serpin, but is not known to inhibit other enzymes. It functions as the substrate for human renin. Angiotensin II is a vasoconstrictor involved in the maintenance of blood volume and pressure.
