Serum Amyloid A (SAA) is the precursor of the Amyloid A protein that is structurally transformed into insoluble fibrils and found in various organs affected by secondary amyloidosis. During inflammation, SAA is elevated up to 1000 times its normal level and is associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) forming a protein-lipid interaction that promotes SAA solubility. SAA is frequently associated with various pathological conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease, atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, neoplasia and other chronic inflammation disorders.

Purity: Approximately 95% by SDS-PAGE; immunoreactive by Western Blot to antisera to human serum amyloid A (SAA).

Prepared from plasma shown to be non reactive for HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HBc, and negative for anti-HIV 1 & 2 by FDA approved tests.
